UREA FORMALDEHYDE FOAM INSULATION

Urea formaldehyde foam insulation, or more commonly known as UFFI, was used in residential and commercial construction before the early 1980's. It was banned in Connecticut in June of 1981.

It was not found to cause cancer or disease as many may think.  It was removed from the market because it caused irritation or allergic reactions in enough of the population to determine it a heath concern.  According to the EPA the out gassing of the chemical component which may cause this irritation to some individuals has been reduced to negligible levels after ten years from the time of installation.

It can be concluded that any UFFI in place to day which was installed before its 1981 ban, should not cause irritation or discomfort under normal circumstances.
